Grand Marketplace Celebrates One Year

It seems we hear of an anniversary party almost every weekend, and it's very gracious of our local shops to thank their customers with free stuff, sales, and chances to win more free stuff, while also reminding customers that they're still here (in case you haven't been out in a while). Partying while shopping is, as far as I'm concerned, a great way to spend an evening. It's also refreshing news when a shop has remained open while other aspects of our city are proving difficult to grow with it, with 40-50 year old clubs and restaurants have been closing their doors week after week, lately.

This November, Grand Marketplace sees their first-year mark and will be celebrating in their 18,000 sq ft space (ormerly known as the Arvey Paper Building. On October 9 of last year, Andrea Jones and Lonny Webb teamed up with Paxton Gate owners Andy and Susan Brown to lease the 1921 structure that started its life as Bob Brown's Oldsmobile (some of the old conveyer belts can still be found there). The space houses 24 vendors who showcase a wide range of old, new, and re-purposed items including tools, books, lamps, rugs, taxidermy and furniture (the list really does go on and on). Apparently there's a list of 200 vendors awaiting their turn to be a part of the action. They've also founded Second Floor Rental and Production this year with two of their vendors, which makes available a huge selection of goods customers can rent for events, film production, photography sessions, etc.

They're hosting this party to thank their partners, vendors, and customers for a very successful first year with food, drinks, dancing, shopping, and a raffle. To partake in the celebratory fun head on over to 1005 SE Grand on Saturday, November 8th from 7-10 pm.
