Lookbook of the Day: R.A.W. Textiles' "The Work Cycle"

R.A.W. Textiles' Rio Wrenn has taken her company—the backbone of which is her hand-dye technique, which involves everything from rust to squished bugs—in many different directions over the years, from hang-able art to one-of-a-kind corsetry. For Fall/Winter '14, she is focusing on scarves, in a collection called "The Work Cycle," a tarot theme that goes with this week's run of woo-inflected fashion news.

Says Wrenn:

The beautiful cards that represent the collection of scarves is called “The Work Cycle.” This was inspired by the Haindl Tarot deck and the work cycle spread developed by Rachel Pollack... Transformation is a powerful force that happens every moment of every day, in our lives and in our environment. The magnetic pulls of energy and the stardust surrounding us (are) the catalyst for this collection lookbook... The textiles carry us through the reading as they are infused with magic and intent.
Two of the patterns, "Lucretia" and "Underground," are digitally printed with acid dyes. These were created with (an) original composting method and computer manipulation. "Waxing" is created only during a waxing moon cycle in order to tap into the subtle magnetic energies. All other patterns are hand dyed with natural dyes, plants, and iron. The fabrics used consist of silk haboti, silk chiffon, organic cotton gauze, and a silk wool blend.
