Prepare Yourself for Little Boxes
Innovations to this year’s event include infrastructural improvements such as how-to videos and business sponsorships from respected local retailers like New Seasons Market. Founders Betsy Cross and Will Cervarich of betsy & iya anticipate record-breaking participation by over 200 stores and 20,000 shoppers this year, potentially topping last year’s estimated total of $283,500 of additional revenue created by Little Boxes for the 200 participating stores.
“Little Boxes is a uniquely Portland event—and has quickly become an annual celebration of local small business,” said Portland City Commissioner Nick Fish, who last year issued Little Boxes a proclamation in honor of Small Business Saturday. “Neighborhood small businesses are the backbone of our local economy. They employ half of Portland’s workforce, and for every dollar we spend at a local small business, almost 70 cents stays in the local economy.”
Not only does it help local businesses these two days during the Holiday shopping season, it also has a strong potential for shoppers to connect to their community and most likely find a new (or a few) favorite places to visit anytime they need to shop for a gift or for themselves.
