C25K – Week 4 Day 1

Dane and I headed out for Week 4 Day 1 when I got home from work yesterday. I had a little bit of anxiety about the 5 minute runs even though I’ve done it before. My breathing wasn’t great on Friday for the last day of Week 3 due to the heat, the humidity and no breeze! My mouth always seems to get very dry (probably because I’m breathing so heavily) so I’ve found that running with gum really helps.

I was surprised how well I did. I didn’t find myself breathing as hard and it took me less time to recover. My legs don’t seem to hurt me but they do end up feeling extremely heavy. I’m assuming that will change as I a) get stronger and b) lose more weight.

Dane has been doing very well although I keep telling him I notice that he’s holding back his speed to stay back with me. Sometimes it’s even harder to go slower than what your comfortable pace is, so I keep telling him it’s ok to go ahead of me. Although, I’m the one with the app, so I tell him when to walk and run.

I also ran with music for the first time since we’ve been doing Couch to 5k together. I think that also helped distract me during the running portions.

Temp was in the low 80’s but it was cloudy and there was a really nice breeze. Felt so much better than Friday (W3D3).

We were talking last week about how surprised we were that we hadn’t seen a snake on the path yet. Yesterday, we passed a woman on a bike who said, “Did you see the big black snake back there?” To which I replied, “Uh NO!!” We never did see him, so she must have scared him off with her bike.

I wore my heart rate monitor just to see how many calories I’ve been burning. This includes an extra walk in addition to Week 4 Day 1.

You can find all of my Couch to 5k posts here.

Do you run with gum?

What is your favorite upbeat song to run/workout to?
