Eclectic Vintage Home in California

As a fellow lover of books and pieces that tell a story, I can fully embrace the philosophy behind this home. It’s ever evolving but with one major rule. Must be cozy. And vintage is a major plus. It’s warmth and love, full of family and amazing vintage pieces from Elsie Green House And Home. The kind of place that you could curl up with a good book and stay awhile. Peak inside the full tour here.

We were drawn to our house because of its classic Craftsman bones, its all white interior, and the big windows that fill it with light and air. Our house is a rotating gallery of things bound for our Elsie Green House and Home collection, so the big, beautiful light filled space is a nice backdrop to constant change.

Our Family Room is where we spend the most time: it’s filled with comfy furniture, books and magazines to read, our collection of vintage marquee letters (F, of course) and vintage pieces that come and go. The furniture ranges from very modern steel side tables to a very rustic vintage kitchen table, and because nothing goes together, everything goes together. On the mantle is a vintage map of France and a reminder to “work hard and be nice.”

Some days the sofas in the family room are covered with vintage linen, but when that doesn’t hold up to our three kids and 100 lb. dog, they’re changed to white denim. The coffee table in the living room is always something different.

Today it’s a vintage Belgian door propped up on books, but last month it was a vintage French military cot. The bed changes from organic linen to vintage sheeting, to a light and fluffy featherbed made in Northern California.

As much as the contents of our house change, the color palette is a constant: we love red and purple. So we lay down a foundation of white, natural wood and espresso, and then splashes of red and purple for some va va voom.

Our Living Room is the first thing our guest see when then enter the house, and it’s filled with books, collections from our travels and a mixture of traditional and modern furniture, and a few quirky pieces like a bookcase made from vintage scaffolding. Rather than the traditional candlesticks, our fireplace mantle stacked with our collection of design books. Our house is a constant source of inspiration. We love it.
