DIY Gingerbread House Kit

Every year when I was younger my amazing (or insane, depending on how you look at it) mother spent the month of December turning our kitchen into a gingerbread factory. She made gingerbread house kits for everyone – family, friends, babysitters, you name it! It’s a great gift for anyone on your list, because you’ll be giving them all the fun of decorating a house without any of the mess or fuss of baking it themselves. See even more DIY ideas in our Holiday Mag!

Acrylic box
Plastic treat containers
Plastic squeeze bottle
Ribbon
Green tinsel
Gingerbread kit instructions & label
Merry Christmas template
Green striped washi tape
White paint pen
Christmas candy
Wilton gingerbread house cookie cutters
Gingerbread house pieces & frosting (recipe here)
Scissors
White cardstock

Bake the gingerbread & cut out the house pieces, let cool. Stack the pieces and tie with ribbon.

Mix the frosting and pour into the squeeze bottle.

Print the Gingerbread kit instructions & label onto white cardstock. Cut out the label and instructions along the gray outlines. Tuck the instructions into the gingerbread stack. Tape the frosting label onto the squeeze bottle with striped washi tape.

Print the Merry Christmas template. Lay the box lid on top of the template and trace the template with white paint pen onto the box lid.

Fill the plastic containers with candy and fill the box with tinsel. Arrange all the ingredients for the house in the box, pop on the lid, and tape shut with striped washi tape.
