2 Ways to Style Your Mantle this Winter

After spending hours last weekend fussing over my holiday mantel I can safely say it’s a past time I embrace with open arms. There are probably a million ways to gussy up that hearth and Stellar Staging And Design Jordan Brittley are showing us two uber cute ones to try out this season; both traditional with red and green hues and a non-traditional in muted grey and winter whites. See it all here!

Non-Traditional

For the non-traditional style I wanted something modern and sophisticated. I chose black, white, and gold for my colors, mainly because I love those colors, but also because I wanted to show that it can still look Christmasy without using red and green.

TIP | Always start with a statement piece. I thought the oversized empty frame would fit the scale of the mantle well and give the punch I wanted. I chose gold hurricane vases to add color, height, and balance for the large frame. Of course I love FRESH greenery, so I added fresh tree trimmings. Let me just say it smells glorious in here!

DIY | The stockings were made out of an old thrift store sweater, and the pinecone garland was made by spray painting the pinecones white and then tying them to ribbon.
Lastly I made the “joy to the world” poster to hang in the frame! Easy, bold, and not your Momma’s mantle.

The “Joy to the World” poster is a fun DIY that is sooo easy. I took drawing paper and a little gold paint and created the stripes. Then I took stencil letters and glued them to the drawing paper adding the message. I found these old pants hangers at a local antique store as an easy way to hang art and thought it was a fun and different approach to Christmas decor.

Traditional

Ok… so I know “Traditional” can sound stuffy, but that’s the opposite of how I wanted this mantle to look. I wanted it to be a place where you wear comfy socks and drink a cup of hot tea.

Teal, green, and red were my color inspiration. Selecting pieces, I went with anything that read into that color family…green glass, red ornaments, pillows, and plaid blankets. The mantle set up was simple with a red berry wreath hanging from a frame as the center piece. I added red ornaments and pinecones to the fresh greenery and I thought putting the stockings on one side helped to balance out the green vase and chair.
