The house by the water

I’ve had these photos saved of Louis Vuitton’s recreation of Charlotte Perriand’s la maison au bord de l’eau. It was made last year for the Design Miami fair, which coincides with Art Basel. The beach house had only existed as a sketch and was temporarily built in beautiful detail, down to the beloved seashells Perriand liked to keep on her walls.

It seems like fashion brands collaborating with iconic architecture proved successful with that collaboration. This year for Art Basel it Bally, reconstructing an original 1944 prefab house by Jean Prouvé…

It was filled with the brands own collection of midcentury furniture and contemporary artwork.

Meanwhile, Design Miami had more work by Charlotte Perriand and Prouvé with Galerie Patrick Seguin’s recreation of three French dormitory rooms from the 1930s to the 1950s - so much amazing furniture! It will be interesting to see which partnerships and recreations will happen next year.
