Beauty Best: Travel Essentials Volume 1

Travel beauty is such a double edged sword. I hate the uncertainty of a new formula, but I love the thrill of discovering something new. Call me jaded, but not a lot impresses me these days (cue Shania Twain’s That Don’t Impress Me Much). That’s why I was thrilled to find these eight products truly perform during my recent trip to Mt. Airy in the Poconos.

NARS The NARSissist palette ($79): Many, many people have already reviewed The NARSissist palette, so I’m sure that my opinion is not the first that you’ve seen, but the thing is that it’s GOOD. Like, really good. I’ve seen a lot of comments about how the shadows are hit & miss in terms of pigmentation, but I would really encourage you to take a step back. A lot of brands, including NARS and Bobbi Brown, design eyeshadows with different finishes and pigmentation levels in mind. Not every shadow needs to be the most pigmented, and I appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into these decisions. All of that aside, this palette is my true desert island eyeshadow collection. The combination of shades which are a smart mix of true neutrals and more wearable colors, so I never feel bored. I know that this will be one of my all-time holy grail palettes and I will mourn its loss with every dip of my brush.

Sephora Foundation Touch Up Pen ($16): If you’re a foundation devotee, adding this refillable pen to your travel bag (and makeup bag) is a total must. Although it is simple in concept, this empty, refillable foundation pen with a standard foundation brush on one end is pretty genius. I have similar products from many brands, but none of them are quite my color. This product solves that problem, and I’m overjoyed that my beloved Revlon ColorStay can tag along wherever I am.

Hourglass Lip Oil ($42): I’ve been crushing hardcore on the Hourglass Lip Oil for about a year now. At first I wasn’t sure that I would enjoy a “lip oil” – I don’t like lip products with a lot of sip – but after the first application I was hooked. The formula isn’t too thick but it is a bit tacky, making it great to prep the lips in the morning or for overnight wear. Because the applicator tip is gold plated, it’s cool and soothing to extremely chapped or burnt lips, and adds to the overall fancy factor. Feeling fancy is key, after all.

Rodial Stem Cell Super-Food Day Cream SPF 15 ($62): I’m not the kind of girl who feels super great about going bare faced – I much prefer the ultra-perfected look (if my love of the Sephora Foundation Pen above was any indication), but this moisturizer totally took me by surprise. It might have been the fresh mountain water, however I am convinced that it was the subtle shimmer and plumping effects of the moisturizer that pushed my reaction over the top. Plus, my foundation went on effortlessly sans primer and I needed to use less product, so it was a win/win all around. The full size has already rocketed to the top of my wish list.

Venus Snap with Embrace ($12): Venus totally changed the travel game with this razor. Thanks to the shortened handle and compact case, the entire duo fits into the palm of your hand. The full size head can fit any existing Venus cartridges, so it seamlessly integrates into your Venus family. A mini razor that works as well as the full size and is ultra portable? Sold.

Tangle Teezer Compact Styling Brush ($23): Nothing comes between me and my Tangle Teezer. It’s rare that I use a hairbrush or a comb these days thanks to the Teezer’s ability to care for my hair both wet and dry. I had a lot of problems with breakage (mostly because I slept in ponytails) so I started looking for ways to give my hair extra TLC. The Compact Styling Brush is a handbag necessity for me these days, thanks to the hard plastic back that keeps the bristles safe. Any tangle this brush will demolish, no matter how intense (and it’s great for extensions, too). It’s magic and you need it. The end.

Neutrogena Triple Repair Shampoo & Conditioner ($6): I’m typically a deep conditioner devotee, but I took a chance when packing for this trip that totally paid off. The combination of the shampoo and conditioner made my hair feel revitalized and hydrated, but not heavy. Because I have fine hair with dry ends, heavier conditioners tend to weigh my strands down. That wasn’t the case at all with this duo, plus it also made my hair very manageable and shiny, which is always a plus. A !

Have you had the chance to try any of these products? I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments below!
