Makeup Monday: Buxom Mascara Bar

When I was a wee babe, I was a voracious reader. While I loved Agatha Christie novels, it was the Choose Your Own Adventure books that kept me coming back for more. I’d read them time and time again, making the smallest changes and hoping for a different result (is that the literary definition of insanity?). When Buxom first told me about their Mascara Bar, my eyes lit up with excitement. I’ve always loved the idea of discovery coupled with customization, especially in a creative free space like beauty. Sign me up!

To try out the concept, Buxom was kind enough to provide me with a custom cigar box full of the seven different brush options available so I would could choose my own adventure, if you will. Instantly, my eyes went right for the Big & Bushy wand, made of wire bristles and promising “massive volume”, much like some of my favorite mascaras already on the market. Sign me up!

As I moved from Big & Bushy to Itty Bitty and onto Lush & Lifted, I started to realize how integral a role the brush plays in the overall effectiveness of any mascara. Buxom’s Vanity Lash, the single mascara counterpart to the seven unique wands, is a smooth, black, lush formula that performs like a completely different product with each wand. With wire brushes, less product was distributed onto my lashes and I used more coats to reach the desired effect. With plastic brushes, more product was deposited and it took more strokes to spread it across all of my lashes evenly.

If you’re as picky about your mascara wand as I am, the Buxom Mascara Bar could be your dream come true. The wand tube is $22, pricing it somewhere between drugstore classics and the cult favorite Diorshow.

Have you had a chance to belly up to the Mascara Bar? Share which wand is your favorite in the comments below!
