Makeup Monday: Burberry Winter Glow Collection

It’s been a long time since I’ve been genuinely excited about a prestige makeup offering, but the Burberry Winter Glow Collection has absolutely taken my breath away. Winter Glow is a tightly edited, cohesive nine piece collection that combines the spirit and color of the classic Burberry trench, the holiday season, and the house’s latest fragrance, My Burberry.

The most unique piece in the collection is the Fragranced Luminising Powder in Gold Glow ($68), in large part because it is scented with My Burberry, but also because the powder highlighter swatches almost taupe. As you blend it in, a subtle fine, golden shimmer emerges. Even in the pan, the powder has a fabric-like quality and appears almost velvety. It is absolutely lovely and great for the cheekbones or body.

The other highlighter of sorts, Fresh Glow Fluid No.01 ($48), is cool-toned liquid that Burberry’s Make-Up Artistic Consultant Wendy Rowe recommends applying directly to your face and then blending concealer from the forehead, nose, Cupid’s bow and chin to create a natural, luminous look. I’ve been enjoying mixing it into my foundations as a perfecting boost. The packaging is stunning and the formula includes hydrating skincare benefits, so it’s a great option if you’re looking for a subtle liquid glow.

Hands down my favorite piece in the collection is the Complete Eye Palette in Gold No.25 ($60). This is my first experience with Burberry’s eyeshadow formula, and it certainly won’t be my last. The four shadows in this quad have been formulated for a specific use (base highlighter, two medium colors for definition, and an intense liner) and appear almost like velvet on the eye, as well as in the pan. The second color from the right has absolutely rocked my world, drawing compliments and inquiry even from my friends that don’t normally wear shadow. If you have fair skin and love neutral eyeshadows, this is the one palette you should buy this holiday (and no mom, you can’t have mine).

The next three products all come in both Oxblood and Gold, a very easy way to navigate between Burberry’s neutral and more colorful shades. The Lip Glow ($33) is a smooth, non-sticky gloss formula that feels thin on the lips, sheer, and easy to wear. Similarly, the Lip Mist ($33) has a thicker texture, is slightly more tacky, and delivers more pigmentation while still remaining sheer. I love topping lip colors off with either the Lip Glow or the Lip Mist in Gold because it delivers a dose of festive holiday shimmer that is flattering, but not obvious. In contrast, Oxblood is a cool creamy berry red without shimmer. While the Lip Mist is sheer it can be built up to full opacity with a lip liner, and the Lip Glow delivers the subtlest of Oxblood tint. The two shades are also carried over into the Nail Polish ($22) offerings. Gold is a shimmering nude, but this is where the Oxblood shade has the most impact. It’s a perfect glossy, rich, winter berry that will be on my nails ASAP.

This is my first color collection experience with Burberry and I’m absolutely blown away. Although I’ve been skeptical of other fashion houses stepping into the beauty space, it feels like Burberry has been able to create products that deliver on the heritage and luxury of the house. I’m absolutely a fan! If you’ve tried Burberry products, please leave your favorites in the comments below. My wish list is growing!
