“A portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week, in 2014.”

So I’m still a bit behind on posting my weekly portraits, but hey getting a great shot that captures her mood or our adventures every week is proving to be harder than I thought.

Berlin and I had a lot of great moments last week, but what really stuck out was the hours spent in the hospital getting multiple ultrasounds done on Berlin’s kidney.

These tests have been a long time coming, in fact I’ve been putting them off for 6 months now. I somehow convinced myself that her kidney’s would heal themselves-to give myself some credit, I was actually told that most times the condition reverses itself (so I’m not entirely crazy!).

To rewind a bit, while in utero, we found that Berlin’s left kidney was quite enlarged (for reasons we are not sure of), but they told us to wait until she was born to have it checked again. After her first ultrasound at one month old they told us to wait again until she was one year to see if the issue resolved itself. Here we are at 17 months and sadly her condition has not cleared up. We are still waiting to get the final results, so we won’t know the treatment or the diagnosis until then. So for now, we are trying not to panic and hoping the procedure (if one is done) will be minimally invasive.

Berlin: she was a real trooper during the 2 hours it took to get images. It wasn’t her favorite thing by any means, but nothing a paci and a little YouTube couldn’t fix. She even assisted the doctor with the camera from time to time. She is a brave little gal.
