Adventures in Aarhus!

After our brief German fling, we hit the road again and before we knew it we were crossing yet another border and we had finally arrived in Denmark! The first port of call in Scandinavia is Aarhus which is Denmark’s second largest city and some call it its cultural capital.

I have mentioned this before, but I just wanted to say again how much I adore AirBnB! You get to stay in an actual home rather than a hotel and it really helps you to feel like you are once of the locals and brings you that much closer to place you are staying. The apartment we were staying in did all of that and it was also DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! It had minimalist design, white floors and that Danish hyggeligt (roughly translates as cosiness), seriously guys, all my Danish interior dreams had come true! I wish I could have moved in permanently!

The tourist attraction scene in Aarhus seems to be dominated by ARoS which is the city’s big flagship modern art museum, and it was our first port of call. Walking up to the building you could certainly tell that it was a modern art museum because it wore an amazing multicoloured hailo which was the special rainbow artwork that essentially a giant trippy multicoloured loop tunnel thing with amazing views. There were so many different artworks that were all incredible: a room full of coloured smoke, a really touching Wes Lang exhibition and a HUMONGOUS (just look at the size of that thing!) sculpture of a crouching boy (by the artist Ron Mueck) which was really mesmerising!

Oh and this is an essiebutton post so of course we cant forget about the food glorious food! The gourmet hotdog from Drudenfuss was out of this world…wow. Aslan and I finished off the day by getting dinner at Langhoff & Juul. The restaurant really focused on only using organic, local and sustainable ingredients and you could really tell because it tasted so fresh and delicious. Oh and they serve the best chocolate cake ever, period! I know what you are thinking, theres probably a cake in your mind right now which you think cannot be beat, but if you try this then you will be converted!

I love Aarhus, it has that manageable smaller city feeling that you sometimes miss when you live in a big chaotic place like London, and our time here has really made me jealous of all you luck Aarhusians!
