I’ve been playing around with making some DIY bath and body products and wanted to share. These would make a super cute Mother’s Day gift packaged up in glass jar. It is possible that I know this because I might have made some for my own mother. (Spoiler alert, mom!) And also for myself. I mean, I’m a mom so that is legit. I made coconut mint bars but you can just switch out the essential oil for whatever scent you prefer, like lavender.
DIY Sugar Scrub Bar Supplies:
(some affiliate links included, ty!)
- 1/4 cup coconut oil – I recommend this one. I’ve also used the Trader Joes brand which smells really coconut-y.
- 1/2 cup Melt and Pour Soap Base, shredded or cubed – I use a natural based one like this or this one. My next attempt will be with a goat milk soap base.
- 3-4 drops essential oil – I used this peppermint oil and I added about 3 drops of pure vanilla extract because I like the vanilla/peppermint scent.
- 1 cup sugar
- candy mold – I use a silicone candy mold, there are tons of shapes to choose from.
How To Make DIY Sugar Scrub Bars
In a double boiler, melt your shredded soap. If you don’t have a double boiler, microwave in 15 second intervals, stirring in between until melted. I, however, don’t have a microwave on account of how we somehow busted ours. I spend a lot of time re-heating my coffee on the stovetop, y’all.
Mix in your coconut oil until combined and add your essential oil (and vanilla extract if using.)
Mix in your sugar and stir until well combined, when it starts to look sort of like a slushee. That’s a very technical cooking term.
Pour into your molds (if the mixture gets too thick you can microwave it for about 10 seconds until it is pourable. Or reheat slowly if you are microwaveable-less like me.)
Allow to dry for 1-2 hours and then gently pop out your sugar scrub bars! Seriously, how cute are they?
(Thanks to Jamie for helping me figure out the recipe!)
