Christmas Puppy Love & Mischief

Lately Lucy Dog has been causing a lot of trouble around here.

I mean, not physically because Lucy Dog is like, 16 years old and does nothing but follow Scarlette around and then fall asleep next to her all day long. Or steal her food.

She is very agile at running away with food, actually.

But apparently in Scarlette Land, Lucy Dog is the source behind all sorts of mischief.

Every night at dinner she tells us some elaborate story in which Lucy has gotten her into some sort of crazy hijinks, like how she was playing nicely at the park (true) until Lucy FLEW TO THE PARK AND STARTED BARKING AT ALL THE SLIDES (not true.)

Or how I found Scarlette writing on the window with a purple crayon the other day and when I asked her if she thought that was a good decision she said “WELL, Lucy actually told me to write on the window wif dis crayon because she wanted to see a picture on the window.”

This has happened often lately and when I reminded her that Lucy Dog cannot talk, Scarlette looked at me earnestly and said “BUT SHE CAN TO ME! ONLY TO ME SHE CAN! I’M JUST THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN HEAR HER BECAUSE I’M A DOCTOR.”

(Thank you, Doc McStuffins.)

Then we had a discussion about why we do not draw on the windows and I told her that if I saw any more writing on the windows there would be a consequence.

And Scarlette said “Well, what if when Daddy was a little baby he drawed on the windows before he knew better and den you just didn’t eber see it until LATER?”

To which I was all “Well, that is a very creative idea and Daddy might have done that but he didn’t live in this house when he was a little baby and so if I see any more drawing on the windows I will know that it was probably Scarlette that did it.”

And then Scarlette said “But actually it could be Lucy. Lucy might draw on the windows again and den I would not hab a time out.”

So I replied “Lucy is a doggy and she can’t draw on the windows because she is very short and she doesn’t have any hands so she can’t hold the crayons.”

And then Scarlette said “Yes she can! She can hold da cwons in her paws because I saw her take a purple one in her paws and hold it in her paws like dis and den draw a picture wif it!”

J walked in the kitchen then and said “Lucy can’t draw Scarlette. She lacks the strength and opposable thumbs.”

And that was Monday night.
