Confessions – Chapter One Hundred and Fifty Two

It takes very little to annoy me and I was quite annoyed at this moment. What do men think that it’s cool to be virile. It’s like they feel so powerful. I don’t think even if you are a side dish you want to know when your man is active with his main. It creates jealousy and once that happens he is the one who is bound to lose out more! If annoy very easily but I am sure any sane person would be annoyed to right now. I did not reply. I had to study in any case. I focused on that for a couple of hours. It’s funny when you are in matric it really hits you that you have to be responsible for some things and the weight gradually builds up. I was starting to feel it now. I like any other student was looking forward to going to university. With me what made it worse was the fact that I lived amongst UJ and Wits students so I saw how much fun and freedom they had as students. I wanted that too but I still had to pass this annoying step called matric. Everytime I put on my uniform to go to school I just felt stupid. It was not a nice feeling but I was not going too screw this up.

The whole of Sunday I did nothing but work eat and bath. Studying alone is not the same though because if you fail to understand the examples it feels like you are studying in vein. Fortunately I was doing standard grade in maths not the higher grade stuff. For those who don’t know, that’s the dumbed down version of Maths that was initially offered to all black people because white people had oppressed but before long even white people were doing it too! Maths is the one subject that can disrespect you regardless of race! Problem with it is that come university, if you want to study the degrees that matter, engineering accounting etc usually you are at a huge disadvantage because you did mathematics for dummies as my father always called it! You got to love this country! I practised my maths all day and by the end of it I was actually quite enjoying because I got! Whoever came up with maths is a fucken idiot and deserves to go to hell because how many kids has this person tortured over the years!

Rodney sent me a message,

“Why are you ignoring me? Anyway tell that cousin of yours that we have an appointment at 2pm for that interview. Will pick her up at 1pm because it’s not far!”
I ran to show Nozipho who was already sleeping. She did not seem to excited but said she will be ready. That’s why I don’t like hooking people up with things! Monday was school. Again I was with Lungile Msibi who was unhappy because her family had moved her from Braamfontein where she was leaving with her brother and was close to school all the way to a place called Alberton which I had never heard of. She kept on moaning about the distance of which I actually agreed with her. Everything in Jhb is far! From one mall to another if you are caught in traffic it can feel like an eternity! Apart from that it was a good day.

When I came back from school she was not there. She left a note saying that Rodney had come to pick her up to go meet her potential new boss. That was awesome! Imagine if he could actually get her job. In South Africa the job industry is all about whom you know and your timing. In all fairness if end up in the right offices of powerful people and you are as pretty as my cousin and I that will also determine your dating circles from then on. There was no way my cousin was not going to meet some rich and powerful working there be it for that short space of time. Other women will say that have more ambition and so on but the reality is usually you will find a partner in the circles you hang out in and that’s your fate. If your hang out in taverns then you will meet the tavern kind of men and same is true if you hang out in a corporate environment then chances are the calibre of man you will meet is from that world! Haven’t you ever wondered why government people tend to marry other government people? It’s because that’s the extent of the people the socialise in. Teachers marry teachers and so on! It’s not bad at all mind you but in today’s world, the better the company you work for then the better your chances of getting into wealth. My cousin was just above a mkhukhu back home and she could come back in a mansion. Gold digger or opportunist you might call her but as far as I was concerned she would be better off. The only people that say money is not everything are the ones who do not have it! Simple and klaar!
It was 8pm where we’re they? They had gone for over six hours and my cousin was not picking up her phone! Look as girls we know we can’t trust each other but certainly she would never? Would she? She was my cousin for crying out loud! I would kill him if he made moves on me! They did not even like each other so where was she. It’s funny how all along I had not been anxious at all yet the moment I thought about my anxiety levels rose! Where was she? Had they booked a hotel somewhere and we’re fucking? That though literally gave me a stomach ache! I never thought I had a jealous bone in me but I swear I would throw her off the building if something happened. Is this what being possessive felt like? What the hell? The feeling was so strong I was even sweating. Thank heavens I didn’t have to wait long from when that thought first hit me because when I was standing at the door I head her giggling outside. Giggling! What the hell? These people hated each other just yesterday and now she was giggling. I ran outside to confront them.

When I opened the door instead of my cousin and Rodney it was my cousin and my aunt, her mother!

Eh ok! That took the wind out of my lungs quite literally! What the hell was she doing here? I obviously ran to give her a fake you are not welcome hug with the biggest smile on my face! That’s the African thing to do.

She said that my parents had sent her to ask me to come home on their behalf as them coming here my put she me further away. She waited a moment for my response and I did.

“I am going to school and finally catching up. I have no drama here and things are working well. I am on the verge of getting Nozipho a very good job which if she does well will be permanent and she will never suffer again and be able to pay for her own fees even!”

The last part was the icing on the cake because I could see that serious face turn into a smile even though she tried to hide it. Nozipho looked up and said,

“I was going to tell her myself Nelisa ah!”

A bit frustrated by it,

“Mum I got the job today through Rodney! He is Nelisa’s friend. I am going to be the temporary executive secretary to one of the Directors of a big mining company. Even as a temp my take home is about 15k and imagine all the things I will learn and people I will meet. I am so excited. He even said if I do well, when his pregnant secretary comes back they can shift into other departments meaning it’s a win win!”

My aunt stood up and hugged me. Then she said,

“If you are happy with being here Nelisa then your parents must just be strong. I will never know how to thank you for what you have done for my daughter!”

I smiled inside and told myself, these aunts ain’t loyal! Money talks and no matter how bad a situation, if there is money to be made, they will put their children first!

When a rich nigger wants you…

Today’s letter is pretty different. Please if anyone has information for where this lady can go for help please advise and for those who can help directly please feel free to contact her. Do not give mean comments because for her to come here and ask for help like this she is on her last legs. Advising one another is the very least we can do and for those with deeper pockets and resources please help me help one of our own.

Thank You

Subject: Matome Neo Jeremia Maleka – Grande Sports Academy 2014-2015 U18 Elite Invitation

Dear Trevor,

Thank you for giving Matome the opportunity to attend the tryouts at Grande Sports Academy, Home of the Real Salt Lake ? Arizona Academy this past weekend.

I have met with the coaching staff, received the evaluation forms and discussed the level of Matome’s performance and skills that he showed in the tryouts. We were impressed by his talented abilities on the field and we also believe that off the field, he would make a great addition to our U18 Elite Team for the 2014/2015 season. Please consider this as an official invitation for Matome to join Grande Sports Academy.

As you already know, these were the last tryouts before the start of the 2014/2015 school year which starts in only three weeks. Therefore, time is of the essence. Please thoroughly review and complete the attached enrollment package and send it back to me. As previously discussed, the annual tuition for 2014/2015 school year is $49,500. If you decide to apply for a scholarship, please note that we are already in the process of reviewing applications for all our returning and potential new incoming players. Therefore, I would encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.

We have had and incredibly successful season and school year 2013/2014. Both our RSL-AZ U16 and U18 teams have qualified for the playoffs for the fourth straight time. Our RSL-AZ U16 academy team has a chance to make history by winning the National Championship two times in a row and are playing in the USSDA Semifinals this upcoming Thursday in Los Angeles. 2012/2013 season was a historical year for our young academy. Our RSL-AZ U16 Academy team won our first USSDA National Championship title. Seven of our players are currently playing for the U18, U17 and U15 National Teams, one with Canadian U18 NT, one with Chilean U20 NT and another of our players with the U20 New Zealand National Team. After another successful season, two of our U16 Academy and two of our U18 Academy players were named into the 2013 USSDA Starting XI. RSL-AZ Academy also won a highly valued Style of Play award. One of our players received a prestigious 2013 USSDA U16 Player of the Year award and two of our players have been awarded Western Conference Player of the Year awards in the U16 and U18 age groups. Furthermore, we have had five student athletes named to the Western Conference Teams of the Year. We have eight student athletes identified in the 2013 class as being in the Top 150 by Top Drawer, the most of any full time residential academy in the US Soccer Development Academy League. Last year every graduating senior received a college scholarship and across the academy (64 boys) the GPA was an incredible 3.65. We have an incredible academic support system in place with tutors, mandatory study hall, grade checks, SAT/ACT prep courses, etc.

Here at Grande Sports Academy education and academics are extremely important and our goal is to provide our players with the best possible opportunities to grow personally and reach their academic potential. Our student athletes have two High School options to choose from:

1. Vista Grande High School is in its 4th year and they offer many AP classes as well as many honors courses students can choose from. They run on a semester system. The school provides a very sociable environment with up to 2,000 students, offers a lot of sports, has a theatre, community areas, etc. For further details please follow the link: http://vghs.cguhsd.org/

2. Mission Heights Preparatory High School is a smaller, much more academics focused school (up to 500 students) and has a more intimate learning environment and a lower student-teacher ratio. MHP runs on a quarter system and students only take three courses per quarter. They also have AP courses to choose from. Here students can find: college preparatory focus, small school environment, high expectations, quality educators, personalized and tailored high school experience. For further details please follow the link: http://www.mhprep.com/. This is the only schooling option for our international students as they are able to issue the I-20 form which is required for a player to obtain a full time F1 student visa. The annual tuition for the school is additional $6,500, paid directly to the high school.

As mentioned previously, the annual tuition for full time residential academy is $49,500 and includes everything: accommodations in our dorm rooms, all the meals and high quality nutrition, experienced coaching, strength and conditioning training, training gear, education, tutoring and academic support, transportation, tournament and registration fees, etc. Potential candidates can apply for a scholarship, however the scholarship funds are limited and it is therefore a very competitive selection process. Scholarships are determined after evaluating several factors: quality of the player, financial needs of the family, academic standing, GPA and standardized tests scores, playing position and the needs on the current team roster, age, etc.

As many of our past student athletes have found, enrollment in Grande Sports Academy is the most important step towards performance excellence in soccer, academics and life.

Again, congratulations on your performance and hopefully this can be the beginning of a very bright future for you.

Sincerely,

Miha Kline
