what is a lifestyle blog?

When I started blogging, I was really inspired by getting ideas from diy and home decor blogs. I thought the blog would be a good way to force me to do more house projects which I could share on the blog. Wellll it wasn’t possible for me to do enough diy/decorating projects so I had a lot of “fluff” content which isn’t what I wanted. So the blog slowly morphed more into whatever it is now, which I guess is a “lifestyle” blog. If you’re like I was, you have probably asked yourself (and might continue to ask yourself) “What is a lifestyle blog?” For me, here is what my “lifestyle” blog means (after the obligatory pug photo of course).

I get to talk about random things, like my weekend or a tv show I’m obsessed with (Scandal! Game of Thrones!) or a book I’m reading or something funny that happened to me. Sometimes I wish my blog was more focused, but it’s also nice to have the freedom to just use the blog as a sorta online diary.

My pugs are a huge part of my life (duh) so I love getting to blog about their silliness and cuteness guilt-free. And I have loved meeting other bloggers who are just as obsessed with their pets. Crazy pet ladies unite!

As I initially wanted, the blog has given me a “reason” to do projects I’ve had on my mind for awhile. I know if I have a boring week/weekend, I will have a boring blog. So I try to think of projects I can do or new recipes I can try. My life wins because I get stuff done and my blog wins because I have stuff to blog about!

I also get to practice my photography “skills” and share my photos with humans instead of just my hard drive. I am far from a good photographer but knowing that my photos are going on my blog pushes me to practice more and attempt to get better. Or it even reminds me to take casual photos on my iPhone. It reminds me to document my life – not just for my blog but for myself. Another win/win.

Being a “lifestyle” blogger means you aren’t in a specific niche, but I feel like lifestyle bloggers are their own niche. There’s lots of us, even though we all focus on different topics. It’s great to make internet friends (in a non-creepy way) and feel like you really know them by reading about their lives.

Basically lifestyle bloggers are your new internet best friends. You want to try a new beauty product, look at cute puppy photos, drool over some yummy cookies, laugh at a funny weekend story and just connect with like-minded ladies? The lifestyle blogging community (and the blogging community in general) is the best. Hugs and kisses to my fellow bloggers who make me feel less like a creepy weirdo for putting my life on the internets.
