Slacker bride

So, I’m getting married on Saturday. Wow. We’ve been engaged since January of 2013 and now I can’t believe the wedding is here! I had so much time that it was nice to slowly get things planned, like the venue and my dress, etc. But then in the last few months I needed to get everything else done and that sucked. I slacked off on getting some things done but everything has still come together so – slacker bride for the win! Here are the ways I’m a slacker bride but I’m ok with it.

Invitations

I sent these out about 2 weeks later than I meant to. Oops. But having a shorter time frame for rsvp’s I think actually encouraged people to rsvp faster. Oh and I hand wrote out my invitations which took forever. I’m not great at calligraphy but I like how they turned out and that they were personalized. Here’s a peak with some info bleeped out (and yes, Jarrod has a great aunt named Betty White).

Jewelry

I kinda forgot about jewelry until about a month or so ago. But I got a great pair of earrings and a bracelet from J. Crew so I’m good to go.

Music

My friend is actually doing our wedding music so he is just using spotify playlists. I just sent him the music yesterday. Oops. Also the organist from our church called us the other day and was like “uhhh we never met with each other so what music did you want for the ceremony?” I basically told him whatever he wants. I know I should care more about the music but it’s a traditional ceremony and I’m sure whatever music they play will be great and I won’t even notice it anyways. So instead of stressing myself out about going to meet with him at the last minute, I’m just putting it in his hands. It’ll be fine.

Ring

We ordered Jarrod’s wedding band in early August and were told it would be 3 weeks. No problem. But when it came in, it was the wrong size (the person measured him incorrectly) so they ordered a new one and had it rush delivered. I called after it was supposed to be in and was told that it was. We went to pick it up and it was still too big. But turns out, it was the same ring and the worker was confused when she told me it was in. I was hot with anger but then it finally came in a few days later. Jarrod was nervous that was I was going to flip my shit in the store but I didn’t. Just barely. So I thought we ordered the ring with plenty of time but then all that crap happened. Anyways, it’s fine now.

Cookie Table

In Pittsburgh, there is a tradition to have a “cookie table” at the wedding. Usually family members will each make a few varieties and there will be a pretty spread of all different kinds of cookies. I’m excited to see (and eat!) all the pretty cookies our family and friends are graciously making. But I had the genius idea that I wanted all vintage glass/crystal platters to display the cookies. I mostly got them second hand which was a nice money saver but is a lot more time consuming. It’ll look good but what a pain.

Entrance Table

Likewise, I decided I need gold trays to display the placecards on the entrance table. So I spent all this time running around looking for cool looking but cheap trays and then I spray painted them all gold. I like how they turned out and I love spray painting things so it was fun to make them but I wish I had started looking for them sooner. Oops.

Reception Details

I met with the coordinator at our reception venue a few weeks ago and he asked several questions where I literally was like “uhhh I don’t know – what do you think?” My indecisiveness is a pain but it usually ends up meaning I go with the easiest path and I’m sure things will be fine.

Something Borrowed

I just remembered I don’t have a “something borrowed.” I need to work on that one. Or not. We’ll see.

Placecards

I decided to do an unnecessarily complicated Pinterest idea for this and now my house is covered in glitter. I finally finished them up yesterday and I love how they turned out but super last minute.

Other customized things

Initially I thought I’d diy some cute little signs or make a signature drink or other Pinterest-wedding-explosion type things. And I just didn’t feel like it. After worrying about the bigger details, I just ran out of energy to get my diy on with a million other things. I think I’m adding enough personalization with the little things I’m doing but I just don’t have the energy to go that extra Pinterest-y mile. Eh.

Bachelorette Party

It was this past weekend so that two of my bridesmaids (including my sister) could be here for it. I didn’t really slack on having it so late but it makes me feel like a slacker that it wasn’t earlier. I will leave you with a few photos from it, including my new “boyfriend” who taught me how to salsa dance. Amazing.

So I might’ve slacked on some things so far and I might still be a little stressed, but all the big things are done. I worried about the things that were a priority for me (the dress, the venue, food, music) but tried to not worry too much about smaller details, like getting a custom cake server or the color of the napkins. The important thing about the day is the actual marriage so I’m tryyyyying to put my Type A personality to the side and not worry about all the little details. At the end of the day, things will surely go wrong, but we will be married and it’ll be a lovely day with our family and friends.

That was my little pep talk to myself to not be stressed the rest of this week. Wish me luck.
