The People’s ID Bot Project with Experian

Fraud can happen to anyone, anywhere and anytime, Chances are you've received a few fraudulent emails. ambiguous phone calls, encountered fake online ads or questionable messages on social networking sites.

WHAT IS IDENTITY THEFT AND FRAUD? It's when a criminal steals your identity and then uses it fraudulently by pretending to be you.

A FEW FACTS - A staggering 4 million people in the UK have been victims of identity fraud. Even more troubling, the averag ecost of these incidents to each victim is £1,190 - but that rises, in some cases, to as much as £9,000. What's more, it takes an average of 444 days to discover that they've been a victim so by at time the trail may have gone cold and the case is harder to resolve.

It can be time-consuming, stressful and filled with uncertainty.
My mother has been a victim of fraud, her details were used to apply for a credit card. charges were run up to the tune of £1,300 before she was made aware of it by the arrival of a credit card statement a few weeks later. Her bank eventually wiped off the debt, but it took many visits to her local bank branch and in total took 6 months of investigating for it to be resolved, whicah caused my mother a lot of hassle and stress she just didn't need, nor deserve.

The People's ID Bot Project is a group of innovators working with Experian and they've set themselves the challenge of defeating identity fraud in Britain over the next few years.

Check out this short video they created to get their point across of just hwo easy it is to be duped and become a victim of fraud:

They've created IdentityPtotect, which is a smart bot that when subscribed to, prompts you to enter any poersonal date you wish to protect i.e usernames, financial details, passport numbers. It then scans the internet continuously and will alert you via email straightaway, if your personal information is is at risk of being shared illegally, stolen or sold.

In addition to this subscription service, the Facebook page is actively encouraging its social media commuity to share their news or experiences of ID fraud, whilst keeping up to date on current threats and issues. You can check the page out for yourselves here
