Keep Warm day 1: Colors

Hello! Jennifer Larson here in Minnesota, where it has been bitterly cold. It usually is in January, but this year's cold and snowy winter has made me long for warmth, so I'm going to focus on warm memory keeping this week! Here's the schedule:

Day 1 (that's today!): Warm colors

Day 2: Warm products

Day 3: Warm subjects (seasons)

Day 4: Warm subjects (activities)

Day 5: Warm subjects (places)

Color:

If you think back to elementary school when we studied colors, you probably remember the color wheel:

Half is warm, half is cool. Most of the winter scrapbooking products seem to fall on the cool side, so let's warm ourselves up by focusing mainly on scrapbooking with warm colors.

1. Yellow

Yellow is my favorite color. It's so happy! When I made this page about my family playing with Jib-Jab, I thought yellow would be a perfect fit.

Bonus: the photos of the computer screens contained a little purple; yellow being the complement of purple made this color choice even better. Here's another page I made with yellow as a base:

See what I mean? Happy. Sue Althouse also scrapped a happy page using yellow:

2. Red

I know we tend to think of red as a color for Christmas or Valentine's Day, but its fire makes it a perfect color for any fiery subject. Its complement is also green, so if your photos sport a lot of green, red might make a perfect base. Here's a page where my son's class visited a local greenhouse:

Here's another double page where I used a lot of red, pulled from my son's taekwondo uniform. Again not at all Christmasy or Valentine's Day-ish, I think because I added a splash of yellow and black:

3. Orange

I know we tend to think of orange as a color that is only associated with autumn, especially Halloween, but this is another happy color. Here's a page where I used orange as a base for a date night with my husband.

Notice how nice it looks with pink--what a novel combo for Valentine's Day! I also did a page with orange as the base on this page about baseball food. Notice how green, when paired with warm colors, looks warm:

4. Lots of warm colors

If you need to warm up quickly, how about filling the page with warmth? One color that's more a pattern than a color is wood grain. See how warm it looks on these two pages when paired with mostly warm hues:

And bright, warm colors on a white/light background really pop, even when there's a cool color there, in this case aqua, which, like green, seems to take on warmth when around other warm colors:
