CROCHETED CHERRY PIE & BLUEBERRY PIE POT HOLDERS / HOT PADS

You may recall back in November I made a set of Crocheted Apple Pie & Pumpkin Pie Pot Holders / Hot Pads for our Thanksgiving hostess (who is known far and wide for her amazing apple pies). While apple pies are found at celebrations all year 'round, pumpkin is usually limited to Autumn and Winter. So when we got an invitation to Easter dinner, I decided she needed to have two more pie themed pot holders / hot pads that could go with the apple pie for the Spring and Summer seasons and I packaged them in a bakery box.

Using the same pattern I used for the apple pie potholder, I made the pie fillings in red and blue (to simulate cherry and blueberry pies) and omitted the top crust. Once I had my bottom crust and pie filling done, I crocheted strips of "dough" for the lattice top and rather than try to find a pattern, I made each strip three stitches wide and measured the length to fit my pie.

The tricky part of all of this is weaving the strips and pinning them in place so you can crochet all of the layers together and get your outer crust. As you remove each pin, the lattice will want to shift on you, so keep an eye on it as you crochet your layers together or you will have to rip it out and do it over again (and again).

All in all I was quite pleased with how they came out. More importantly, the lady I gave them to loved them, so that made it all worth it.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Hope your day is sweet!
Hugs, Snoopy :D
