The Best Beauty Websites

{our go-to sources for beauty and hairstyle inspiration}

A few weeks ago we solicited your thoughts as to what you would like to see us write about in upcoming weeks. We received some great responses and we’re so excited to tackle the various wardrobe and attire topics our HOM readers raised. In this post, per an HOM reader’s request, we are discussing beauty inspiration.

We love our ponytails, the half-up/half-down look and the chignon. We’ve also tried the bold red lip and other classic make-up looks. But, some days, a girl just needs inspiration in her beauty routine. Fortunately, we have the internet to guide us, but other than Pinterest where should you look?

We’ve scoped out the best places to stop by for beauty inspiration:

The Beauty Department

The brainchild of Lauren Conrad, this site is by far the best online resource for make-up and hairstyle inspiration and education. Yes, education. The site features tons of step-by-step photo tutorials for both classic looks, like how to easily do the smokey eye, and trendy looks, like the dutch braids everyone seems to be posting on Instagram.

So, are you applying your blush correctly? And what exactly is contouring? Plus, why yes, you can make your own toner at home from all natural ingredients.

Our point is, you need to bookmark this site ASAP. You’re welcome.

Irrelephant

A new discovery for us, the Irrelephant blog is a breath of fresh air. It’s a bit different from the traditional magazine beauty coverage and even from the all the beauty blogs out there. Written by two stylists, the blog tackles realistic beauty struggles like how to diffuse natural curls. And, it also features a bit of whimsy for days when you feel a bit experimental with your style!

Plus, the girls throw in a few lifestyle pieces like recipes for apple cobbler and creme brûlée.

YouTube

YouTube beauty v-loggers seem to have been lost in the popularity of finding inspiration for everything on Pinterest. But there is something to be said for doing things the old-fashioned way and just searching YouTube for video tutorials on the look you’re trying to achieve.

For ideas, check out some of these popular beauty gurus: Elle Fowler who gets millions of views with her approachable personality and easy-to-follow style; Lisa Eldridge who works with celebrities like Kate Winslet and Emma Watson, but features surprisingly simple beauty tutorials to echo the latest celebrity looks; and Lo Bosworth is no longer just that one reality star because her YouTube channel features some beauty and lifestyle videos, too!

Wedding websites

For special occasions and fancier up-do’s, turn to wedding blogs which do an excellent job of creating hairstyle tutorials that are gorgeous and relatively simple to do yourself. For example, this compilation of romantic bridal hairstyles is absolutely stunning!

Style Me Pretty’s post featuring 8 hairstyles every girl should know has gone viral and we completely understand why – the tutorials are gorgeous and oh, so simple!

But, these wedding sites are also great for the basics – like OnceWed’s 5-minute face beauty tutorial. The dewey look is just so pretty! The site also features a great tutorial on how to blow dry big waves – a perfect work look!

Where do you look for beauty inspiration online?
