Homespun With Love
Hi Roadies, Jennifer here with a fun altered house project. When I create houses I try to give them lots of character. It's fun to imagine who might live in them or who will stop by for a visit. This windmill was created using the Home Sweet Home Mixed Media Album and was inspired by the (Simple Stories) house motifs, seen here.
The building is made out of three of the Home Sweet Home pages. I altered the shape of the houses, on the ends slightly, by adding a triangular shape to the sides. Making them look more like the inspiration motifs. The middle house was built up using a few bingo chips and a doorway was cut. Foamboard and thin cardboard was then used to make the sides and roof of the building.
The windmill was made out of some chipboard doors that were pieced together, as shown below. Two Foundation squares were layered together to form a base for the blades (pic. 3) and scalloped frames were used on the front of the windmill.
Roof overhangs and window boxes were cut out of some thick chipboard. All the pieces were then covered with patterned and solid papers.
A painted Stitch Heart Charm and chipboard heart was added to the center of the windmill, as an embellishment.
To make the chimneys a little more interesting, I added Wood Beading Spools to the center of each. Note: A small handsaw was used to remove the bottom section of the spools.
To give the look of leaded glass to the Windows, I cut the hearts from two Banner Love Clips with pliers and glued them to the inside of the windows.
To create a title, some Daniel Mixed Alphabets and a chipboard heart were covered with a variety of patterned papers.
The Country Fair Wood Buttons matched the patterned papers so well, I decided to add a couple of them to the printed banner at the base of my project.
