Altered Sewing Basket....

When Caroline asked for projects to be created for an upcoming Quilt Show I knew immediately that I wanted to do something altered. I had a couple of old sewing boxes in my stash so I decided to alter that to go with the quilt theme. Caroline also requested some more cone "trees" so here are a couple of my projects.

First I totally gutted the inside of the sewing box. I filled the inside bottom of the sewing box with fiber fill and then added some fabric to make the base. I wanted Caroline to have an oversized pin cushion so she could display her gorgeous Maya Road pins for the show. I then cut a piece of chipboard the size of the inside lid and added fabric to that as well. I used Maya Road trim to spruce up the sewing box and some of the gorgeous wooden buttons as well. I wanted everyone to know whose products these were so I took a Maya Road star pin and glued a Scrabble piece to front to spell Maya Road. I added a single wooden small spool for a little bit of something!

The cones were covered with burlap and the other one was Modge Podged with sewing patterns. The fun part was then covering them with more Maya Road goodness! The burlap one I simply wrapped twine around the cone and then clipped items using Maya Road clothespins or pinned things using Maya Road pins. So easy and so cute!

The pattern covered cone I kept simple with some burlap ribbon, wooden button, twine, and a wooden tag. And a tree isn't complete without some kind of top so the gorgeous tulle flower and another wooden button were perfect!

I hope you've enjoyed my altered items. I had so much fun creating these. I am sure they are going to love all the amazing products Maya Road has in store for this show. Happy creating!
