Visiting: Medieval Town of Torun

Torun is one of the oldest cities in Poland. It quickly turned out to be one of my favorite cities in Poland! From the medieval city walls to the Gothic architecture and charming shops and and streets, in old town Torun you feel like just wandering.
Torun has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it was added to the list of Seven Wonders of Poland. For good reasons! Unlike many other historic cities in Poland, it escaped substantial destruction in WWII. Torun has the largest number of preserved Gothic houses in Poland, and most architectural monuments and buildings are originals.
Torun is famous for its gingerbread (called 'pierniki' in Polish). It's a traditional Polish gingerbread that has been produced since the Middle Ages in the city of Torun. There are shops at every corner in the city. Every store you walk into, you can smell the delicious gingerbread. There's also a Museum of Gingerbread where you can learn about the history of gingerbread and you can even make your own gingerbread cookies! We had so much fun doing this! :)

Another reason I love the city of Torun is how all the buildings and other constructions, including city walls, are illuminated at night, creating a charming effect. Twinkling lights wrapped around the trees give a warm Christmas-y spirit!! So pretty to sit at a nearby cafe or pub in the evening under the stars and sparkling lights! And it's like that pretty much everyday, summer and winter!

The most common thing you'll see and hear about in Torun, and many other cities in Poland, is their famous resident Nicolas Copernicus.
Such sweet memories of Torun.
