Things I wish I knew about sooner.

When I was a child, I constantly worried about the stuff that I need to do when I grow up. I always see my mum depositing cheques, lining up for literally an hour just to pay the bills, and many other things that I didn't quite see myself doing in the future (and that's because no one was telling me how to do it)
I mean, just looking at my mum makes me feel so overwhelmed. The 10 year old me never heard the teachers talk about how you'll deal with people on the phone when it comes to loans or taxes. Was I absent on the day that they taught us how to deposit those freaking cheques?!
There are some things that I wish I knew about sooner, maybe I would have turned out a bit less insane.
  • You can succeed in life even if you don't have a degree, you just gotta know how to play the game. Speaking from personal experience, I always thought that uni is the ONLY key to success. In high school, all they ever talked about was how to prepare ourselves for uni. It's not necessarily true, anyone can make it in the real world without a diploma. I've met so many successful people who didn't apply to a single university (and no, I am not referring to those male billionaires)

  • Life is unfair, even if you're a martyr. Based on what I've learnt in school, I thought I was gonna be set for life if I have a big heart (and a college degree) I thought that bad people are the only ones who get problems, that life is going to be full of joy if I don't hurt anyone. In the long run, I realised that school failed to mention that life will be tough no matter who you are, what you do, and where you are.

  • Love is not enough. Can I get a bit cheesy here at the moment? Those stories that they read at school, or the films that they let us watch always give us the idea that love is all that matters. Well surprise surprise, turns out it's another white lie. Love does matter, but it is certainly not enough.

  • Money is indeed, important. Teachers used to tell us that money is not that important, that being good and being surrounded by your loved ones is more than enough. Again, definitely false. Money makes the world go round. Some may deny it, but from what I can see, money is the answer to pretty much everything. Money will ALWAYS be involved with something, whether in relationships, families, or friends. Without money, we are nothing. I guess it's one of the harsh truths that I've realised as I grew up.

  • Don't take things too seriously. I used to be so hard on myself... would you believe that I CRIED when I lost one activity sheet at school? I was so gutted and nervous about what my teacher will tell me, to the point that my mum drove me to my classmate's house to have it photocopied. All because of one freaking sheet of paper. I was brought up to the belief that I need to worry about every single thing, that I'm obligated to stress over something so little. Thankfully, I grew out of it and learnt the art of humour and going with the flow.

  • Parkinson's Law. I can do things much quicker than I think. This law says that a task will expand in time and seeming complexity depending on the time you set aside for it. For instance, if you say to yourself that you’ll come up with a solution within a week then the problem will seem to grow more difficult and you’ll spend more and more time trying to come up with a solution. I really hoped that I applied this to myself years before. It's one of the greatest things that could have helped me save so much time and energy.

  • There is no such thing as happy endings. Before you start rolling your eyes, let me tell you that I am not referring to fairy tales and all those romantic shiznit. Older people used to tell me that people have a mission in life that they have to accomplish, and when they finally get their happy endings, they are now free to leave this world. Sadly, this is obviously not true. I really do wish that life is like that, but we all know that people just leave without getting their happy endings.

What about you? What are the things that you wish you knew about sooner?
