Magnificent Carthage

Carthage was a land of oppurtinities found more than 2000 years ago driven by wealth, power and ambition. Carthage dominated the Mideterranean world for over 600 years. Carthage was in northen Tunisia where the capital Tunis is today, city of 2 million people sitting on the Mideterranean Sea. By the Fourth Century BC, Carthage was an absolute empire dominating the whole region with a powerful navy. However, the original legend of Carthage started in the eastern mideterranean city of Tyre, the Phoenician city of Tyre and a woman named Daido with the jealousy and greed of power that absolutely rip a whole royal family apart. She was the beautiful daughter of King Matan, her husband was an ambitious Pheonician who had met a horible end. He was assassinated by Daido's brother Pegmilian. Terrified for her life, Daido fled across the Mideterranean from her home land of Tyre to a new land in North Africa.
There she had negociations with the native people to buy as much land as could be covered with the hide of an ox. Clever and cunning, Daido cut the hide into the thinnest of strips then arranged them to enclose a large section of fertile land. There under her governing hand, the fantastic Cart' Hadash a new city will be constructed. Daido's settlment quickly prospered. According the legend, tales od its wealth and Daido's beauty spread all the way to Erabas, king of the Lybian natives who wished to marry her but she refused to do so and she burnt herself because she didn't want to marry an other man after her beloved husband was killed by her brother back in Tyre.
It was from her legendary ashes, that one of the greatest empires in the ancient world would rise. Surrounded by bigger powers and little land, the Phoenicians of Carthage turned into the sea. They were pragmatic and open to new ideasand endlessly innovative. They managed important trade routes and their city expandedand they rapidly became an international city of that time. Over the next century, Carthage ivolved into a major mideterranean power establishing colonies iin Corsica, Ibiza and all North Africa. Through expensive trade networks, by the 7th Century BC Carthage's new territories were generating a massive treasure and its population reached 300000 making it one of biggest cities of the ancient world.
Carthage drew legions of people looking to make their fortune and soon the city's architects and engineers had figured out a way to house them all. It was a challenge that would lead to the most remarkable urban building bone in antiquity. The Carthagenians were the first on a massive level to turn the city's sky into private property by building apartments.
