Toyota Seatbelt Design competition!

Hey guys, did you know that based on Traffic Accident Research & Data Analysis Investigation, only 25% of people in Southeast Asia wear seatbelt? And even though it might seems small, it's actually one of the most important thing to remember when we're in the car, because airbags alone are not effective if you're not wearing seatbelt. Drive safely, seatbelt saves lives! :) Safe driving will not only help yourself, but it’s also as important for all road users around you. And here are my own tips on staying safe on the road:

1. Don’t drive when you’re sleepy, or under alcohol influence. Alcohol causes a number of impairments that lead to car accidents. Avoid driving alone late at night, call a cab or ask your sober friend to drive you home. If you really really have to drive at night, bring something to keep you awake and focus. Eat some candies or drink coffee, yes. Playing with your phone or watching TV series in the car while driving, NO.

2. Don’t drive fast & furious. Speeding is one of the most prevalent factors contributing to traffic crashes. You only live once, and how nice it’s gonna be if you’re living it responsibly. Even when the road is empty, or if there is no other cars when the traffic light turns red, it’s not a sign that you can speed up your car to the maximum speed, because it’s not only dangerous for you, but also for the pedestrians, and other road users. There is no goodness you can achieve by driving recklessly, it can only increase your risk or car crash. For your average drive across town, driving even 10 mph (16.1 kph) faster is only going to save you a few minutes -- while increasing your crash risk by as much as 50 percent. Better safe than sorry!

3. Listen to Colplay while driving, according to new study. Okay, here’s the fun fact I just found, that drivers who listen to Coldplay are most likely to drive safer… than drivers who listen to Guns & Roses (no offense, GnR fans!) They launched a ‘safe’ playlist for driving, each of the songs have an optimum tempo mimicking the human heartbeat at around 60 – 80 beats per minute. Some of the songs are Come Away with Me – Norah Jones, The Scientist – Coldplay, Karma Police – Radiohead, Skinny Love – Bon Iver. Interesting. :)

4. Last and the most important thing, wear your seatbelt! Seatbelt is not just there for no reason, they can lower injury risk and save your lives! Always wear seatbelt anytime you sit on your car seat. Sad fact is that so many of us young drivers & passengers ignore the use of seatbelt, a staggering 70 percent of fatal crash victims between the ages of 13 and 15 weren't wearing seat belts. We can do better. Start being a safety leader, remind your loved ones to always wear seatbelt and stay safe on the road, from now!

So I’m calling all talented people, whether you are a student, blogger or professional designer, TOYOTA want to ask you to start a safety habit on the road, and they’re holding a competition to raise the awareness of safe driving, the fashionable and creative way on the road. :) It's a regional design competition for Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Three designs representing each country will be selected as the winners. Each winners will get awesome prizes: iPad Air 32GB & iPad Mini 32GB and 10 seatbelt pads of your winning design! You can send your illustration or scanned hand-drawings, just let your creativity flows and don’t forget to submit before 31 August 2014.

Adding some puns won't hurt... My seatbelt will make you hungry!
