5 good things

I'm finally reviving 5 good things! I have today off work for a nice long weekend

1. Running! I have my first half marathon on Sunday (so scared but excited!) and I also went to a running club last night with a friend. It is quite a small running group and thankfully they aren't all speedy marathon runners. We had a really nice run down by the Mersey, chatting about all sorts of things. It was really unusual to be chatting when running. I usually run by myself and get myself so out of breath I can't talk, but it was really enjoyable to take it a bit slower and talk about running with new people. It also made me think about running post-half marathon and how I want to continue. I'm really looking forward to finishing my half marathon training and then focusing on getting speedier at the 10k distance. I'll be back on Sunday with my race report from the Liverpool half.

2. This dress. Swoon. Treated myself to it today as there is 30% Dorothy Perkins. I can't remember the last time I bought clothes that weren't for work. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. God bless in store pick up! Anyone else wish it was free though? They probably get daily deliveries of stock anyway.. Still, cheaper and quicker than getting it posted home.

3. Trying out new recipes. We had got in a bit of a cooking rut, always doing the same meals. Even browsing our cookery books didn't give us any inspiration as about 80% of all my cookbooks are just for cakes and desserts! I bought these two new cookbooks, Prashad and Leon Family & Friends and we have tried out a few recipes from both of them. Beef daube, mattar paneer, pork meatball noodle soup, roast lamb, chevti dhal, all delicious! I really wish we had a dishwasher though because I love cooking far more than I love washing dishes.

4. New phone. I finally upgraded from my nearly 3 year old iPhone 4, to a Samsung Galaxy S3. Yes, I know, the week that they announce the new S4. Oh well. I am just made up to have a new phone that doesn't need charging twice a day and has a lovely big screen and doesn't keep bricking itself and losing all my info/photos. Yes, I had begun to hate my iPhone! The S3 is really slim and tactile. Yes, it's slightly wider than the iPhone but the screen size and resolution is worth it. I've not fully explored it all yet but I am enjoying android.

5. Feedly. How gutted were you over google reader announcing it's demise? I was very. I've used google reader ever since I started reading blogs really as they grew in popularity over Livejournals, so probably around 2007. Feedly promises a seamless move from google reader when it closes in July, so I'm trying it out already and really enjoying the slick user interface. Oh and there is an equally slick app for both Android and iOS.

Happy weekend everyone! What are your plans this weekend?
