January 2-8, 2015
The Christmas Crackers we ordered to enjoy during our New Year's Eve celebration, did not come in time, so we put them on the tree to enjoy before we open them at our Twelfth Night party.
Spurred on my the games we played on New Year's Eve, we have been having a game marathon this past week.
Sam has to have a root canal done, but his tooth was so infected that he had to have a course of antibiotics first, so he has not been feeling well this week.
On Twelfth Night we had our annual party to celebrate the end of the twelve days of Christmas. First was the search for the pickle ornament (a German tradition). James found it this year and received a game for us all to play. Then we opened Christmas Crackers (an English tradition). Inside is a tissue paper crown, a sheet of jokes and a small prize. Then we began to play the game and eat our King Cake (a French tradition), which was a white fruit cake this year. In the middle of the game, the baby reveled itself in my piece, so I was crowned queen for the night, which meant that I was allowed to make all the decisions on what we would do.
The next day, Epiphany, we woke up to a dusting of snow on the ground and more snow falling. We put away our Christmas things and the Christmas season was officially over. In the tree, I had hidden bags of gold foil covered chocolates for them to find and I burned Frankincense and Myrrh, all to remind us of the gifts the kings brought the baby Jesus on the first Epiphany.
On Wednesday, we had rehearsals for the play we are doing, The Keeper of the Tales.
On Thursday, James went to the orthodontist just for his monthly checkup.
