March 8.

On Sunday was International Woman’s Day (also, my birthday, yay me!) and me and some of my friends joined the UN Women march here on the streets of New York. About 2000 of us marched from the UN headquarters to Times Square (only good reason to ever go to Times Square, to be honest) in the purpose of gender equality and feminism. It was beautiful, everything from the weather to the abundance of women of all ages walking together to say the same things women who marched on the very same streets back in 1908 said: we want more, we are not happy, we are 50 percent of the population yet we are treated as a minority. We want equality, now.

What’s painfully sad about this is the fact that we actually have to say the same things today, more than 100 years later. We want the same, basic, equal and human rights men have had since the beginning of time. We want to be your equals. And we will fight until we get there. I just hope in another 100 years, these words won’t be necessary to shout out on the streets anymore. Well, one can dream.

I am dressed in a wool coat from Whyred, a bag from Clare‘s collab with another favorite, &Other Stories (birthday bag, yes!), shoes from Monki and jewelry also from Other Stories.
