Furano Flower Fields (Hokkaido, Japan)

One of the first parts of my Hokkaido, Japan trip was visiting Furano 富良野, which is located in the centre of Hokkaido. A major item on my bucket list is being able to photograph and view a flower field, so this was one of the biggest highlights of my trip. Furano (and its nearby town, Biei) has so many of my favourite things – golden wheat fields; flower fields; mountains; blue skies and clouds, and even a little Ferris wheel tucked away among the fields. The Furano flower fields are simply breathtaking. Standing in the middle of Hokkaido in the glimmering summer sun, with so many beautiful things in sight, is an extremely surreal experience; it awakens serendipity, wanderlust, and wistfulness. I have never fancied myself to be much of an outdoor person before falling into photography, but now my pastime is doing anything but staying indoors – exploring the wilderness; finding age-old forests, deserted patches of wildflowers; quiet little picket fences in the country; and of course, photographing the strange and lovely nature I come across. I hope to be able to visit Furano again sometime in the future, to drink in and photograph its untainted beauty.
