Doodle Bugs on Canvas

These little creatures are what I call doodle bugs, and I last tried them as a watercolor project. They work well with markers too, especially if they are brush Sharpies on a mini canvas.

1. I recommend having students make a practice drawing first. The bugs are best drawn by starting with the eyes, then the body below, then wings, tail and antennae.
2. When ready, the final drawing is drawn on a mini canvas. This student used a 3″ x 3″ size.
3. The art is traced with a black Sharpie marker.
4. The drawing is colored with Sharpie markers. All Sharpies work well, but the brush ones are a treat, if you can afford them.

Thanks to Alena, a 5th grader, who made this art today. I’ve got a urge to turn it into a giant poster!
