Trend to Try: Live Edge Furniture

We have a lot of rustic decor here in Washington..you know, things that look like they belong in a cabin in the woods. I'm not into that look at all, but there's one thing associated with the rustic style that I have been loving lately: live edges! That's when the natural edge of the wood is incorporated into the design of a piece. I especially love it on tables or slab headboards. And that's about as "lodge-y" as I'll get...no stuffed moose or fishing-themed decor for me!

So pretty, right? I love how each piece is unique, and so much more interesting than your average wood furniture.

The only downside is, big wood slabs are quite pricey. I saw this tutorial and it made me think...maybe we could DIY our own live edge table? Or if an entire table is too daunting, this bench looks totally doable.

This would also be easy to recreate--the hardest part would be finding the right piece of wood. Once that's done, just set it on top of some magazine stacks and you've got a bench!

And how gorgeous is this kitchen?! It's so unique...and that live edge detail is a total showstopper.

What do you think of live edges? I'm predicting that we'll see a lot more of them this year. What about you? What design trends do you think will be big in 2015?
