Extreme Kitchen Makeover Part I

Welcome to my Extreme Kitchen Makeover! I shared with you guys that in edition to being pregnant, we also bought a new home. We officially moved this past weekend. The new home is still in the same area as our old house, so no major changes. We still have a 99% of unpacking left to do. Getting bronchitis again didn’t help the situation. My goal is to have my house in order before the baby arrives. That seems so far away but I’m sure it’s going to fly by. I love my new house. We gained a bedroom and some much needed space. What we didn’t care for was the kitchen. This house may be bigger but it had a struggle kitchen. It was almost like the builder forgot that the house needed a kitchen and found a small space to put it.

As you can see the kitchen is pretty small and very outdated. Laminate counter tops and old appliances. This kitchen real looks out of place in this house. After we placed an offer on the house I went straight to Pinterest for kitchen ideas. After I had an idea and examples of what I thought our kitchen could be I met with SEVERAL kitchen designers for a plan. Boy did I have sticker shock. I see why this kitchen was never updated. We were under contract and I was determined to get my kitchen for the budget that Mister set. I will go over how I save a ton of money on our remodel on a future post. For now, I wanted to share my updates.

I was so happy to see the kitchen demoed. No turning back now.

About three weeks later, our new custom shaker style cabinets have been installed *does a cartwheel*. It felt like forever. Having no kitchen is not the business. This is the current state of Baby Shopaholic kitchen. The cabinets still need to be painted, granite installed, appliances connected, and back splash. I also want to change the lighting but that is last on my list.

The original layout of the kitchen the fridge was next to the stove. I decided to knock out the double door pantry and move the fridge to that wall. That freed up more counter and cabinet space in the kitchen. I added a high pantry cabinet next to fridge. It added some much needed space to the kitchen.

I’m so happy to see my vision come together. Would you believe me if I told you these cabinets were ordered without a contract and strictly off of my measurements? Sure did *dust my shoulder off*. Mister was impressed. Only one cabinet didn’t fit (not my fault) so they are making a new one. The new kitchen should be functioning this weekend. I will share a video with you guys next week. What do you think of my contracting work? I may have found a new business venture!
