{things i did} truffle making class

I’ve never taken a cooking class or lecture of any sort—it’s just been books, blogs, TV shows or online videos for all my culinary"training"—but I thought a chocolate making class would be a fun way to start. After all, what’s more perfect that making truffles on Valentine’s Day in Hershey, PA with your significant other? To be honest, I didn’t have super high expectations (it was only an hour long class, specially themed to couples) and I'd attempted to make truffles at home once before, but we had so much fun and truly learned a lot. The flow of the event was seamless (they provided all the right tools) and the extras were adorable–roses! candy boxes! personalized chocolate bars! The teachers were experts, and even though the ganache, tempered chocolate, and toppings were all laid out, they did such a great job summarizing the essentials while also detailing Milton Hershey's love story that I almost wished I was taking notes. Funny side note: everything gets a bit messy (lots of spoon/finger licking was involved at the very end) and the hosts kept quipping that everyone was too dressed up to really get into things. They both kept asking what everyone was thinking wearing their best clothes, handbags, and jewelry (so guilty!) but gave us a pass since it was a date-night holiday after all.
