SK II Facial Treatment Essence (Miracle Water)

Now that the dust (of moving) has settled and we’re more or less breaking in our new condo, I finally had time to whip out my equipment to take some photos and of course, write this blog post.

A few months ago, I was contacted by the PR of SK II to check if I’m interested in reviewing their extremely popular Facial Treatment Essence. In all honesty, I’ve never tried many products from SK II and the only one I’ve tried many moons ago was the sheet mask. I remembered liking it but it was just too expensive to purchase regularly because we now have so many different sheet mask options at a more affordable range.

After giving it some thought, I informed the PR that I was interested in giving this Facial Treatment Essence a go. My skin has been a bit troublesome, probably due to the weather changes and I wasn’t completely enamoured with another skin lotion type thing (*cough* Estee Lauder *cough*), so I thought of trying something new.

This product is probably not new to most but it is new to me as I’ve never used it before. I was a little apprehensive about what to expect because I’ve read so many raves and was hoping that it will work out well for me too.

It comes in a really nice frosted glass bottle and although the bottle I have is only 75ml, it still has a good weight to it. It’s not something I will travel with unless I transfer some to a lighter-weight bottle. The top cap screws on and off easily and I have no issues dispensing the liquid onto a cotton pad or the palm of my hands.

I usually use about a pea-size amount and gently pat all over my face. Sometimes I’ll pour some onto a cotton pad too. The first time I tried it, I was really turned off by the scent. It smelled salty and slightly chemical. I am not a fan of the scent even until today.

I think the salty smell comes from the first and key ingredient called Pitera (Saccharomycopsis Ferment Filtrate), which is an extraction of fermented sake. Pitera is said to contain amino and organic acids, vitamins and minerals to help skin maintain a youthful appearance. I’m not a scientist and cannot vouch if that stuff really works.

Based on my experience of using the essence day and night for the last few months, I think it has helped the condition of my skin improve. I suffer from an oily-tzone, dehydrated and sometimes sensitive skin, and I do not get any adverse reactions from using it. I noticed some of the scarring from a few pimples have lightened and my face does not feel as greasy as before. The essence absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a sticky or slick residue, which is great because no one wants to feel icky in this hot tropical weather.

However, the improvement of my skin condition could also be attributed to an amalgamation of various skincare products that I’ve been using in conjunction with the essence. So I cannot say with full conviction that the essence is indeed the “miracle water” that has solved my skin problems. I believe it has contributed to improving the condition of my skin but is not the main reason why.

As for a more youthful appearance, well… I think I still look the same… hehehe… My skin texture feels similar and I don’t think I have suddenly looked younger. I don’t have that many wrinkles to deal with except for a few fine lines under my eyes. It may make a marked difference on folks with more problematic skin.

You may ask if I will recommend this product. Yes, but only if you have the budget because this stuff comes with a very hefty price tag. A 75ml bottle costs RM229, 150ml for RM429 and 215ml for RM565. Personally, it is just too expensive for me to plonk money down on.

Overall, I have enjoyed using the SK II Treatment Essence despite its weird salty scent but it is a wee bit too pricey. I have read and heard many testimonials about the product working “miracles” on others so your mileage may vary.

Are you a fan of SK II products and have you tried the Miracle Water? What are your experiences? Do drop in to comment because I’m really curious to know if it has worked out well for you too.

Product was provided by PR for consideration. This does not alter my personal views and opinions in the review.
