The Beauty of Life

Throwback Thursday: My Junior High Obsession with Hats

When I was in junior high, I had quite the collection of hats. My grandpa knew I loved them, and he would buy them for me constantly -- fedoras, top hats, berets, the works. Whether I was at school or hanging out with my friends (usually at the mall), I was rocking a hat of some kind.

The two hats you see here are actually both from Gap circa 1993. This was back when I loved everything Gap did, especially since they would come out with very focused, color coordinated collections. I got both of these hats during the time of their red, black and grey collection (the skirt I'm wearing on the right is from the same one).

I just seriously loved wearing hats so much! I got away from it in later years, and I'm not really sure why -- though I've been trying to bring back my hat game recently. I love how the right hat can completely change an outfit.

Notes about what else I'm wearing here:

The shirt on the left was originally my grandpa's and I WAS IN LOVE WITH IT. It was oversized, it was crisp, it was basically perfect. I have no idea what happened to it. I think I probably threw it out during a fit of cleaning at my mom's a few years back, which makes me really sad.

As I mentioned above, the outfit on the right came from Gap (I believe that sweater was part of the same red/grey/black collection). Why am I holding a trophy, you may ask? Well, I was part of a competitive reative writing team in junior high called Power of the Pen (I was incredibly cool, as one might suspect). This was at a competition where our team came in first and advanced to the State finals. You might also notice that my nails are painted bright red to match my skirt and hat.

And yes, in case you're wondering? I even had the Blossom hat.
