Zoya Naturel Satins 2015 and a new camera to shoot them with!

Disclaimer: Sample. See bottom.

Sooooooo I have to start off this review post by sharing that for all my swatches here, I took my new Canon t5i out for a test drive.

I don’t know how to fully use it, or Photoshop, so I cropped the photos, saved them, then watermarked them in my old photo editing software from, like, two cameras ago.

It’s a failed system and I’ve got to figure some stuff out aside from this, so I apologize up front for crappy photos, cropping etc. I apologize for the really good photos, where you can see things like little pieces of lint that I NEVER SAW BEFORE because my camera was not that good! I can see how this is going to up my photo game, you guys! But I gotta figure shiz out first.

I just finally had to take the leap and try this camera, because my husband gave it to me for our first anniversary – in NOVEMBER. I’m a bit of a slacker…

Why did I decide to share these photos, then, if they’re not perfect? Because my nails, my life and my skills are not perfect. I hope you can forgive me

Anyway! I chose the Zoya Naturel Satins collection to experiment with first!

Zoya describes the Naturel Satins as a hybrid between matte and glossy, and they live up to that description. They also last longer for me than most of the mattes I own.

I’ll just jump into my swatches. For each color, the first photo is the swatch, second photo is of one finger with the satin finish and the other with top coat.

Tove:

(finger on right has top coat)

Tove is described as a misty slate grey. This polish is a great pairing for the winter we’re having in South Jersey – lots of cold temps and snow. But the polish is more like a princess grey than a symbol of inclement weather, if that makes sense! This is actually three coats. I wore it for a day with two coats, and added the third so I could take fresh mani pics.

Leah:

(finger on left has top coat)

Leah is described as a lavender-tinged taupe, and she’s one of my favorites. Swatched with two coats here, this polish is elegant and ready for the red carpet or the cube farm. I love it!

Rowan:

(finger on left has top coat)

Rowan is described as a creamy suede taupe. This was the first Satin I tried – I went to Rowan University so I felt all kinds of school pride when I saw the name. I really liked how this one looked against my skin, despite how red and angry that first photo is, it was very soft and pretty.

Sage:

(finger on left has top coat)

Sage is described as a mossy sage green, and this is another that is so very soft and pretty. I could just keep using that to describe these as I go. They all are. And they look beautiful together all lined up!

Brittany:

(finger on left has top coat)

Brittany is described as a rose mauve creme. This one is not bumpy as my photos might suggest, it is like the other ones (I must’ve had leftover cotton fuzz on my nails!). I love that this one is such a subtle pink, really.

Ana:

Ana is described as a light toasted almond; this is one of my favorites.

I did not have a hard time applying the Satins, they went on pretty easily in two coats. I am always nervous when I can’t use top coat, but they dried within a half hour – I watched at least an hour of TV when I applied the ones I wore, to give myself plenty of time for application and drying!

In addition to swatching, I wore half the collection before writing my review. While the satiny finish got a little more glossy due to wear, tear and things like hand cream and cuticle oil (even within 24 hours this happens), these wore very well over a period of three or four days compared with the matte finish polishes I use.I think I prefer the finish, with that as a strong reason!

The Naturel Satins are available on the Zoya website here, and retail for $9 a bottle.

Which ones are your favs?! Did you order any? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
