Modern Rome Wedding + A Tail hem dress

Wow guys, this wedding… Definitely not your cookie cutter event thanks to Michaela’s and David’s unique sense of style. This modern Rome wedding is lacking “details” as we know them from many wedding blogs (erm, like this one right here), but it has the couple’s signature all over it, from the bride’s statement dress to the venue (those chairs!!!). Thank you Purewhite Photography for sharing your images with us today, I find them very inspiring!

It was love at first sight for Michaela and David: “We met pretty randomly in Dubai (where we both live) at Zuma about six years ago. It’s a bit of a debate between my husband and I as to who initiated conversation but without sounding too cliché we kind of slowly gravitated towards each other near the bar and fell for each other instantly…”

David proposed during a trip to Rome: “We were taking a late night stroll along the river in Trastevere. As we approached the car he stopped “to ask me a question”. It was then he pulled out the ring and we both kind of froze. Very unexpected, considering I was actually taking him out to dinner that night for his birthday (he kind of stole the show). I think we hugged for about 15 minutes. Partly out of excitement and partly out of not really knowing what to do next. It’s interesting how the dynamic of a relationship changes from that moment. You instantly go from being “boyfriend and girlfriend” to eternal partners for life in one second. That’s kind of amazing.”

“We commissioned a custom smartphone app and website to communicate with our guests, keep them in the know and make them interact before the wedding. All of the graphics for the app, website and printed material were custom designed by on one of our closest friends and designer Edem Agbotui…on his own time; through late night and weekends managing around his daily work at Moloobhoy & Brown.”

The bridesmaids wore a 60s-inspired navy blue “Brigitte Bardot” dress – handmade by an Italian tailor shop. The groomsmen donned navy blue suits and white shirts with lavender and pink ties, all with white button holes.

On coordinating the wedding themselves: “We found the venue online. Since I have quite a lot of experience in planning luxury events (I am a luxury brand consultant) and David is an Architect and self‐proclaimed expert in all things aesthetic we decided to plan everything by ourselves. For us it was a pleasure to have the chance to imagine and model our special day from scratch. But we did not do it all on our own… our friends and family gave us incredible help starting with the civil wedding in Dubai and onwards to Italy with errands ranging from expediting documents to picking up flowers. Most of all, they offered us incredible emotional support which was the most important thing for us. Strangely I didn’t transform into bridezilla during the planning of the wedding. I saved my bridezilla moment for the wedding day in Rome when I lost my cool because of a wardrobe malfunction with my veil when I was getting ready!”

Any advice for brides-to-be? “Try to organize well without getting a control freak: family and friends are there to help in case of emergencies. If you are planning a destination wedding, I suggest hiring an expert, it will make everything much easier. Also have a person of trust to hold a pouch with everything you might need during the night, including a ice‐spray: it will help to cool your tired legs after many hours of looking fabulous on high heels.”
