MISSISSIPPI MUD / GMC YUKON

At the end of November, my friend Rebecca invited us and a few other friends and our families down to Clarksdale, Mississippi to stay for a couple of days at the Shack Up Inn, which her parents own. We were also given a GMC Yukon to test drive for the month, so what better time to really get it out on the road and put it to the test. We loaded up the car and hit the road. The Yukon was really nice and roomy, comfortable, and smooth. A pretty luxurious vehicle with all of the bells and whistles, which made our 5 hour drive a piece of cake.

When we arrived to The Shacks (yes, shacks. That is what they are called because they are literally shacks) the sun was just beginning to set. We stayed in “The Rich House”, which is their biggest accommodation and has three bedrooms and two baths—when you’re a family of six, the more room the better. The house was really cool, complete with living room, dining room, large kitchen, foyer, and oversized porch. We quickly settled in and felt right at home before meeting our friends for dinner across the street. The next morning we explored the cotton field next to our house and Birdie played in the mud. After cleaning her up we went into town for coffee and breakfast before meeting back up with everyone. The town of Clarksdale is small and quaint, and it reminds me a lot of the small town where I was born. We drove around for a good half-hour looking at the old buildings and murals. We spent the afternoon with our friends and their families, flying kites with the kids and playing in the cotton field. That night everyone gathered at our house and cooked a giant feast, a “friendsgiving” if you will, complete with the most incredible pulled pork, sweet mashed potatoes, corn bread, roasted this and that, salad, and more—it was delicious and a lot of fun getting to see some friends that we don’t see often enough.

Our trip was a quick one, just two short days spent playing in the Mississippi mud, relaxing with friends, and unplugging for the most part, before loading the Yukon up again and heading back towards home in the rain. We had a great time and are looking forward to the next Shacks stay. Thank you GMC for letting test your wheels for a few weeks. We all loved the car.
