Barbie in Princess Power Review & #Giveaway

Growing up in a household full of girls meant always being surrounded by Barbies. Sure, we had plenty of GI Joe dolls and Lincoln Logs, too, but my sister and I were huge Barbie fans. My Christmas present from my Nana every year since 1994 has been a Holiday Barbie, so my Barbie love is no secret.

My 5 year old, Ellie, is also a self proclaimed Barbie lover, and I’m happy to indulge her. She asked for a Barbie house for Christmas this year, and already has over 40 dolls in her own Barbie collection. She is constantly asking to buy new dolls and Barbie movies as they debut, so she was super excited when I told her we were going to be reviewing the Barbie in Princess Power combo pack with Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD.

About Barbie in Princess Power:

In Barbie in Princess Power, Barbie stars as princess Kara who is one day kissed by a magical butterfly. Kara discovers the butterfly kiss has given her super powers! Kara’s super hero alter ego, Super Sparkle, uses her abilities to fly around saving the people of the kingdom. It isn’t long before Kara’s jealous cousin learns Kara’s secret and decides she needs super powers, too. Her cousin catches a magical butterfly to gain magical powers and becomes Kara’s rival, Dark Sparkle.

How did we like the movie?

Ellie said the movie was “awesome”, and she wishes she could be a super hero princess, too! I found Barbie in Princess Power to be an adorable movie full of great lessons about helping others and working together. I also like seeing a movie with a female super hero for once. Although my daughter loves watching super hero movies with male characters, she was really excited about watching a girl this time.

Barbie in Princess Power held Ellie’s attention for the length of the entire movie, and that’s no small feat. She is easily bored with movies and wants to switch to a new movie about half way in. This is one movie she actually watches all the way through then asks to start it again. Barbie in Princess Power will be a great addition to our travel collection because I know it will keep her happy and occupied on road trips, and I won’t have to change out the DVD every 30 minutes!

To go with the movie there is also a new line of Barbie in Princess Power action figures…yes, action figures for girls! Ellie has added the BARBIE™ in Princess Power™ Transforming Super Sparkle™ Doll to her wishlist, and I suspect more of the figures will find their way to that list in the near future.
