They’re friends online – but can they be more in real life?
Writer Tara McFadden has been friends with artist and drummer Hector Fernandez for years, long before his band became famous on reality TV – yet they’ve never met in person. They finally have a chance to connect offline when they’re both sent to Comic-Con to promote the graphic novel they collaborated on.
Hector’s secretly been in love with Tara for as long as he can remember, and once they meet, she sees him in a new light. All the years of longing lead to an incredible night of passion after one of his concerts, but neither is sure if their online relationship can translate into a real life romance – or if this will ruin their friendship forever.
Over four crazy days at Comic-Con, Hector and Tara must decide if they want a future together. But when their story seems to be over, it’s up to Hector’s entire band to make sure he and Tara get their happy ending.

Fluttering Thoughts:

Worldbuilding: This story was set entirely at Comic Con in San Diego and I thought that was awesome!! I love reading convention type stories. I’ve never been to one but when I read these types of stories I feel like I’m actually there and this story certainly did not disappoint! You got a glimpse at panels, contests, book signings, and just the general chaos of the convention.
Characters: Hector and Tara have been pretty much best friends for three years via technology (calls, video chats, text messaging, etc.). Hector is the drummer of the band called Villain Complex (which is the best freaking name ever :D) and an amazing graphic artist. Tara is the author of the graphic novel Misfit Squad (which sounds awesome too!). Hector helps bring her book to life and that working relationship turned into so much more. I loved both of these characters. I love how they just clicked after meeting each other for the first time. Hector was this quiet brooding artist two times over. Kept to himself despite his band’s fame and put other’s happiness before his own. Tara was a girl that was kind of drifting in the wind. Just doing things because they seemed right and were comfortable. I really liked that towards the end she got a little independence decided to do what would make herself happy and not worry about everyone else.
Plot: This is the first time in a really long time that I haven’t read a book that had characters with the worst/horrific backgrounds. Does Hector have some things in his past that are difficult? Yes. But this story in general is pretty damn fluffy and a great change of pace for me. The whole story was pretty fun loving and about going after what you want and not settling. It was a kind of fast paced for my tastes. In terms of a time line the story took place over about four days so essentially a long weekend.
Writing: This story was written in first person point of view as well as dual points of view of Hector and Tara. This was the second book of the series, Chasing the Dream, but could be read as a standalone (which I did). I was able to understand all of the character’s dynamics and I didn’t feel like I was at a loss for not reading the first book.
Curb Appeal: I loved the name of the book as well as the blurb! The blurb certainly grabbed my attention since it mentioned online buddies that had never met before. That isn’t something I recall reading a lot of so it piqued my interest. The cover is pretty cool too. I looked at some of the other books in the series and they all follow the same font and color theme and I loved that.

I really enjoyed the story!! My only problem is that it was so dang short! Like I wasn’t ready for Hector and Tara’s story to end, to me it was just getting started. I would have loooved to read more about them being together and meeting each other’s families and all that couple stuff. If it had given me more, then it would’ve been rated five stars all the way. All in all if you want a quick fun loving read with some extra hot love scenes, definitely come and check this out!
