Hit the spot: summer 2014's men's polka dot trend

It's been a while since we've seen a print as fun as this hit menswear, but summer 2014 has been all about polka dots for dudes.
After literally decades of seeing mostly just checks, plaids and stripes dominate men's fashion prints, the humble polka dot may come off as a little odd, but soon enough, you'll be digging its smooth, graphic impact.

Polka dots are definitely a young man's game. Mod and playful, there's nothing too serious about this motif. Even when paired with classic suiting or slick accessories, as in Burberry Prorsum's Spring/Summer 2014 men's collection, polka dots bring in a lively, retro vibe that's youthful and hip, putting a casual spin on even the most tailored looks.

Because it's so far removed from formal, the classic polka dot print is also a natural choice for brightly colored apparel, a combo that's got a sort of pop-art/comic book/Roy Lichtenstein appeal. For the same reasons, it's also a great laid-back streetwear print, and works super well with athletic gear and swimwear too.
Stussy's Scratch Dot collection

These days, we're getting our own taste of the men's polka dot trend at Buzz Jeans with Stussy's latest print collection for summer 2014. Stussy puts a little of their signature edge into the Scratch Dot collection, with polka dots that have a hand-painted, scratchy look.
The label's brought their Scratch Dot print to a bunch of different styles, from hoodies to ball caps and more. But we especially like Scratch Dot Swim Trunk, since there's no easier way to wear a kind of crazy print than at the beach or the pool. Bonus: these swim shorts double as an everyday walkabout short too. Just toss on a tank top and mosey from the beach over to the taco stand. Now that'll hit the spot!
