DIY Chalkboard Menu Cabinet

One of the ways I keep organized, keep my grocery bill in check, and stay healthy is meal planning. And if I forget to update it each week, my 6 year old will harp on me until I do! Since so many people focus on making healthy changes in the new year, I thought this would be a great first project for the first Silhouette Saturday of 2015. Plus, it’s renter-friendly too! (I actually did this on all my laundry room cabinets as well).

Here’s what you’ll need for this project:

I started by measuring my cabinet and cutting the Con-Tact paper to size. Then I applied it using the scraper to get out all the bubbles.

Next, I laid out my designs in Silhouette Studio and put my CAMEO to work cutting the adhesive cardstock. I had sketched out the cabinet size to decide how big to make my designs. My cabinet is 10-inches x 24-inches so I made “Menu” 3-inches tall and all the days of the week 1-inch tall.

I love using the cardstock because you don’t need transfer paper to put it on things since it’s pretty rigid and also because it’s more temporary than vinyl. The hook tool comes in really handy for weeding out the designs. I didn’t bother with all the tiny letter centers for this project.

Then I used my tape measure to evenly place them on my chalkboard cabinet. I left 1 1/2 inches between each day of the week label.

Next, just I just stuck ‘em on and then added in the meal plan for the week with chalk! I sharpen my chalk with a pencil sharper so it’s easier to write with.

And that’s it!

Happy creating!
