Scientific Study and Testing

Creative, Curious, Inquiring Thinkers!

As we learn new things, we record it.
Oh do we have a lot to share! Our Unit of Inquiry, How the World Works, has wrapped up and it has taken us on quite an exciting journey of properties. We have looked closely at what items are, what they are made of, how we can describe them, how they work and whether or not we can change an object. Our senses proved valuable tools for our inquires!

Focusing our Inquiries: Materials, Length, Mass, Function, Change:

We investigated living things too! WORMS

Materials are used for different purposes.

How are the balls alike? Different?

Not all nests are the same. Why is that?

Sound Investigation

Our study led us to discover that the materials of objects change its sound. If you happen to walk by a kindergarten room over the last two weeks, you may have wondered what we were up to. It was loud and very exciting! Scientist must test their ideas, so we did just that.
We started our investigations with a Listening Walk around the school. My are there a lot of interesting sounds at CIS!

Vibration-we can explore it with our ears and our eyes!

Water carries sound too!

Studying how sound travels

Watching vibrations caused by sound

TCTS

We read a story called The Tin Can Telephone System (TCTS). Which furthered our wonders even more. Do all materials carry sound the same way? What materials could we use to make our own phone? Why does it work sometime and not all the time?
Trial and error, recording and making a lot of changes…such creative thinkers!

Pre-Study
To check our understanding of sound, each class wrote a poem before the study of and then at the end. It was every exciting to hear the reflections of what was learned.

Post-Study

February Math Projects
Our creativity continued with the presentation of February's math projects. We absolutely loved everyone's special books.

Alta's Action Continued:
Alta's action of collecting 100 cans of food as her 100 Day Project ended with making a very special, welcomed delivery to the CLE FoodBank. Thank you Alta for showing such tremendous compassion for others.
Thank you Mystery Readers!!
