You Are Unique: 4 Reasons Why You Need To Stop Comparing Yourself To Others

If there is one thing all us girls need to stop doing it is comparing ourselves with others. It is probably one of the most hurtful and cruel things we do to ourselves. Wether we do it in our heads or with a group of friends (we all had that moment when a new girl walks in and questions like ‘Is she prettier/smarter/better dressed than me?’ are raised!) we need to stop doing it. It is unfair to us and others on so many levels and adds 0 value to our lives.

We give you 4 reasons why you need to absolutely stop comparing your beautiful self to others:

#1- Comparisons are always unfair and is damaging to your sense of self

Science explored the feelings someone has while comparing themselves to others. Comparing ourselves with others gives us feelings like envy, low-self confidence, depression and compromises our ability to trust. We typically tend to compare our flaws with other people’s strengths, which makes it an unfair battle to begin with.

#2- You are unique

You really are! Everyone has different talents and that is a good thing. Focus on developing your own specialities in stead of the talents you do not have but others do.

#3- Comparing makes you focus on the wrong person

Your focus is on others, while it should be on you, your values and your goals. The only life we can control is our own, so control it and don’t waste it on comparing yourself to someone else. Don’t be too hard on yourself when you think that someone else is more successful, smarter or prettier than you, cause that will eat your motivation and makes you lose focus on your goals.

#4- Comparison is the death of joy

Comparison will distract you from joy and all the fun things you could have done in the mean-time. It does not add value, meaning or happiness to your life and therefore it is a waste of time. Next time you are out and catch yourself comparing yourself to other people, try to stop doing it and go talk to them instead. Turn this negative habit into something positive and get to know new people (or old ones better).
