I Love You, Juneau (part 2!)

During our trip to Juneau we spent a lot of time outdoors hiking the flume trail and around the downtown residential areas. We didn't realize before we got to Alaska that Juneau is totally blocked off from the rest of the world, that is, there is no way to get to it other than by boat or plane. At one point during our neighborhood exploration we came to the southern end of the city and things just, well, stopped. We got totally blocked by the side of a mountain that I think was Mt. Roberts.

We did some kayaking from the Mendenhall River into the Pacific Ocean and we did the West Glacier Trail out to the Mendenhall Glacier in hopes to strap on some crampons and explore the ice caves. Sadly a lot of the cave systems have recently collapsed and in a few years the area that we did explore will have receded almost entirely. I guess that you can tell global warming is real when you start looking at the glaciers. We finished the trip by going ziplinging in the Tongass Rainforest and it was a lot of fun. We would go back in a heartbeat.
