5 ways to boost your Instagram account, from our experience

Spotting a perfect blue sky on your way to work? You post it on Instagram. Attending an amazing concert where you stage dive for the very first time? You post it on Instagram. Visiting a very cool coffee space with miraculous latte art? You post it… yeah, you get the gist.

Instagram is huge and probably is here to stay. It is no longer something you do alongside your blog, but it has intertwined with your whole online presence and gives you the chance to share your life in pictures. So there’s no denying anymore: time to awaken your inner image editor!

Get those hashtags under control
Ah, the wondrous world of the hashtag! These babies can be brilliant if you’re willing to waste time browsing and looking for inspiration, but overkill will cost you followers. Stick to two or three hashtags a post and squeeze in a funny one in every now and then. #hashtagqueen #peaceout

Come up with a big masterscheme
Your ability to take a minute and really think about what you’re going to post will reflect the eventual outcome of your post greatly. Even if you just made the perfect image, wait a minute before you press the publish button. Is the text you wrote really the best it can be? Is it funny, catchy and not too long? Can you improve it by deleting or changing a few words? Take your time to think about it. It’s well worth it, you’ll see!

Fill out an engaging bio
You have the opportunity to fill out a bio on Instagram, so use it! Tell something short that captures your essence. Be funny, but not too funny (seriously, don’t try too hard) and post a link to your website or other social media sites. Keep in mind that this is something people will read before they will take a look at your pictures. Make it short, personal and don’t forget to tell people what you do.

Plan, plan, plan
This is a rule that you should follow to all social media sites and it’s probably one of the hardest: if you want any kind of following, the key is to post consistently. For Instagram, 1-3 posts a day is preferred, spread out over the day.

Reveal behind the scenes shots
People are curious by nature, so they want to know what’s happening behind the scenes. So post plenty of pictures of yourself, well, eh, making pictures.
