Dark-Skinned Girls Rock: Faith!

Hey Luvs,

Hope you all are doing lovely and feeling great! Today for the Dark-skinned Girls Rock! series we're featuring Faith from Frugal Faith!

Faith Everybody meet Faith! She's a 33 year old Civil Servant from St. Louis, Missouri!
Describe yourself in 3 words. God-fearing, Smart, Talkative.

Explain your personal style. In one word, my style is eclectic. I love a wide array of things. I can go from classic to edgy to conservative to sporty to bohemian in one week. Sometimes I manage to fit all of that in one outfit!
Who are your style icons? My style crushes are Solange Knowles, Tracee Ellis-Ross, Nicole Richie and June Ambrose.
Have you ever struggled with self-identity issues because of your complexion? If so what are some things you did to accept yourself for who you are and love yourself? I wouldn’t say that I struggled. I didn’t have issues with dark skin. I had issues with people who had issues with dark skin. I used to be very defensive about it. If you started that “you’re cute for a dark-skinned girl” crap, I had some words for you! Anyway, I have always liked being dark-skinned. Everyone in my immediate family is dark-skinned. We embrace it. I will say that there have been times where I’d look at a picture of myself and think, “I look really black!” as if dark skin is only good up to a certain shade. I had to get over the “degrees” of dark skin. So, now if I go on vacation and come back two shades darker, I’m cool with that.
Do you have any advice for other dark-skinned women that are struggling with accepting themselves because of the color of their skin? My advice would be to understand that color adds flavor! Who wants a wardrobe of just white and beige? Who wants a bag of Skittles with just yellow? No one! Likewise, God didn’t want a bland world with people of one color. Accept the part that you play in making this world beautiful. The world needs you and your unique beautiful skin.
What do you like most about being dark-skinned? I feel like every color in the rainbow looks good on dark skin. Our clothing and make-up options are endless!
Thank you so much Faith for participating in the series! You are so right girl; God didn't want a world full of people with the same skin tone. He created us in different shapes and sizes to make this world more beautiful! On another note, don't forget to check out Faith's blog Frugal Faith!!
